Hey, that title rhymed!
Not too bad for a girl that is delirious with a head cold and bronchitis right now! I have one whopper of a virus right now, and I just can't seem to shake it. Ugh.
I thought since I don't have enough brain cells to compose a post today we would do something a little fun...
I'm holding a little Q& A session for the Urban Farmgirl!
Ask away!
Anything you would like to know about me personally...or my little biz...my home...you name it! Just leave me a comment on this post with your question. I always wonder about the girl behind the blog, so I know you probably do, too!
And just to add a more little fun, I will hold a little GIVEAWAY to go along with it! I will randomly choose one winner from the questions and send them a little surprise package of vintage goodies! (I have some awesome things set aside...but it's a secret...so shhhhh!)
I can't wait to see what you come up with! Its been a while since I have done this but it is always fun to read through your questions!
Happy Monday, girls! I am off to curl up on the sofa...
Oh, and on a side note...did you know that if you suffer from those crazy coughing fits - rubbing Vics vapor rub on the bottom of your feet and putting socks on stops the coughing?? I know, sounds TOTALLY crazy...but a friend told me about it, apparently her Grandma swore by the method. After another sleepless night last night, I was desperate enough to try it. My hubs insisted she was pulling some practical joke on me...and I did feel a little weird doing it, but I have to admit, it actually worked! I have not coughed once since I tried it. That is my helpful hint for the day!

ok, that vicks trick is hilarious! but if it works....
ReplyDeletei would like to know what your favorite meal is? not food, like ice cream, but meal like entree and side and beverage to go with it.
I've heard of that before, and even though it sounds super crazy, it totally does work. My question for you is: what is your most favorite vacation destination, and why?
ReplyDeleteI would like to know if the sweet little toy truck in the photo is actually yours or just a random photo. I'm wondering because I want a little vintage toy truck with just the perfect amount of rust like that one and I haven't been able to find one that of course doesn't cost an arm and a leg ;)
ReplyDeleteToni
What is your favorite source for vintage home goods?
ReplyDeleteI would love to know if you know the people in the truck photo on your blog header. You do the most gorgeous photography! Really enjoy reading your blog! Hope you feel better!
ReplyDeleteHi there! So sorry you aren't feeling well, that's no fun at all. I am so happy you are doing a Q&A today! My question is, what is your most favorite item in your home-what is it and what's the story behind it? Hope you get feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteXo,
Anna
I love everything I see in your shop, every time I visit it. I would like to know what your favorite vintage find has been.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the most bizarre thing you uncovered during your home renovations/flip projects?
ReplyDeleteCan I ask a few questions??
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are SO lovely! What kind of camera/set up/editing tools do you use? One of my new year resolutions is to take better photos.
Also, what few items are your best sellers?
Hope you feel better!
Melissa
if you are watching Downton Abbey which, by the way you should be if you aren't, what is it that most draws you to it and what is your favorite character?
ReplyDeletereally? Vicks on the feet? never heard that one before. and I hope I won't have an opportunity to try it soon either! OK, for my question, what is one thing that people don't know about you that would surprise them?
ReplyDeleteI hope you get rid of that nasty virus quickly. As a child, my mom rubbed Vicks all over my chest and under my nose when I got a cold. Oh how I hated that stuff. It would be a lot more tolerable on the feet instead of under the nose!
ReplyDeleteMy question: Has there ever been a vintage piece in your shop that you really really really wanted to keep for yourself? If so, what was it?
Here's my shameless question as I'm always on the lookout for new books: What is your favorite book of all time? What books would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteI had heard that years ago and I too never believed that smearing vicks on your feet would work..But my husband has a heck of a cold and cough and I will give him this information..He will then say to me..Oh because the Urban Farmgirl says it it's true..And I of course will say..ABSOLUTELY..Hope ya are feeling better..
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better! My question is...when are we going to get together?!!!
ReplyDeleteIs there a piece you regret selling?
xo
My question...Do you ever doubt your white wall ways? Actually, Are all of your walls white?
ReplyDeletewhat is the best deal you ever found when treasure hunting?
ReplyDeleteQuestion? Uhm...do you have children and if so, how do you balance their taste in decorating with yours? We're in the middle of making colour choices for my 13 year old daughters bedroom makeover...ugh? LIME GREEN? Help! Get well! Much love, Lisa
ReplyDeleteI can't remember from summer but do you use the AS chalk paint? If so have you ever had a problem with it?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see you start painting again! Hurry up summer:)
I have to say I can imagine the vics on the bottom or your feet working! Soaking your feet in a tub of hot water helps a cold too - even more than soaking your whole body in a bubble bath. Don't ask me why, I just know it works!
What is your all time favorite comedy? T.v. show or movie.
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon. I'll have to remember the Vicks trick.
ugh - sorry your feeling blah! i'm tucking that little vicks treasure away -- the coughs are bound to catch up with me sometime!
ReplyDeletequestion for the day - what is #1 on your bucket list?
feel better soon!
Question: If you could change anything in your house and money was not an option, what one thing would you change?
ReplyDeleteI had sinus and chest congestion and nothing I took would help. Short of going to the doctor I looked up old fashion remendies for my symptoms. I found the vicks remedy on-line and gave it a try. I rubbed it on the bottom of my feet, on my chest and the bottom of my nose so I could breath. After a couple of days I was on my way to recovery. So, yes it totally works.

I'm dying to know: how did the pharmacy cabinets turn out?? (And did you get the new barn wood dining table??) :)
ReplyDeleteWhat color do you suggest for a master bedroom. I am struggling with that.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom has told me about the Vick's thing. I have never tried but might now.
Feel better.
Hi Mary,
ReplyDeleteWhat paint color/brand did you use for your guest bedroom? Also, if possible - would you be able to share all the paint colors/brand that you used for the walls & trims of your entire home? Thanks in advance.
Jessie

Does your family still live on the farm you grew up on and do you have any pictures of it that you could share with us?
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon!
P.S. I hope you feel better!!! I've been sick now for the past week, so I know how horrible it feels to be under the weather when you have so much work to do! :) Happy Monday!!!
ReplyDeleteWe use the Vic's trick on my girls' when they are coughing at night.
ReplyDeleteQuestion -- What TV shows are a 'must watch' at your house?
Hi Mary~~~So sorry to hear that you are feeling so awful. It seems like there is something going around everywhere. Since I am one of your newest followers and new to blogging, I would like to know what inspires you the most and what keeps you doing this????
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon:)
~Cheryl
What started you out as a blogger? Your inspiration?
ReplyDeleteCheck out my blog at thriftshopcommando.blogspot.com -
My question is far and away the most pressing and urgent of ANY question you will receive, I guarantee it...when the HECK are we finally gonna get to meet???
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna happen, it just HAS to!
XOXO,
Me
P.S.
the locker door is MINE! Mmmmwwwaaahhhhaaaa ( evil laugh!)
that is an awesome tip, Mary! crazy! hope you feel better soon. Bronchitis is the pits.
ReplyDeleteI guess my question is more business related. Did you start out on your own dime or did you get a loan from family or the bank? When did you feel like it was becoming profitable for you? How often do you have to restock your bigger pieces? How many shows do you do in a year? (seems like around 3-4 if I'm remembering correctly...?)
I would be interested in hearing what things you experienced growing up in the country that us city slickers wouldn't know about!! I spent my teen years in the country and I learned more about gardening than any of my friends knew....things like that!
ReplyDeleteoh glad to hear you got some relief from the vicks on your feet! i will remember that one!!
ReplyDeletemy Q- when out and about treasure hunting, what finds makes your heart skip a beat? would love to know! Kate x
Great tip for the coughing! I love your pieces and your blog. How many pieces do you do a month? Do you set goals or do you just go at your own pace? What do you do when you have a creative slump? Or do you get those?
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon....My question: What does your house/decor look like????
ReplyDeleteI will remember that tip, thanks!! What is your favorite memory of growing up on a farm? I am attempting to raise my children on a little farm, and always wonder what memories I can help them make now, that they will always treasure and remember when they are older.
ReplyDeleteGet well! :)
that is so bizarro about the Vick's, but what ever works, right!
ReplyDeletehope you feel better soon!
My question is:
Are you going to give me that toy truck in the picture???
What is your current obsession in the antiquing world???
ReplyDeleteIf you want to get better... crush a clove of garlic. Then take the garlic crushed and place some in each of the fold of your arms. hold it there til it starts to burn. The garlic goes into the bloodstream and goes to work on your cold. BELIEVE ME it works.
ReplyDeleteHave you been talking to my Mom??
ReplyDeleteLoL
Because she just told me a couple of days ago to do the Vicks/socks thingy.
And that her Grandma is who told her. LOL!!
How funny is that!
Ok, well, I thought it was. Heehee.
Hugs,
Tam
What is your most favorite vintage find at this moment?!
ReplyDeleteIs there an annual (or more often) vintage type flea market that you look forward to each year?
ReplyDeleteAnd if so what has been your best purchase so far?
Hi your blog is beautiful. My questions is this. Why do you not find that farmhouse with the barn and the long winding roads?..The life you dream of could be yours...
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, and repin a lot of your pins on pintrest... WOW,now I feel like a stalker!
ReplyDeleteMy question for you would be:
how often do you "take down" and regroup everything?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you aren't feeling well. But curling up on the sofa with Vicks on your feet should do the trick.
ReplyDeleteSo... Why did you start blogging?
Cheers!
Miss Ellie
When did you know you wanted to have your own business and how did you take the leap to do so? The same goes for blogging...I started last year, but quickly got blogfright. I can't seem to get over the fear of it not working to just go for it. Katie
ReplyDeleteI'll have to keep that cure in mind. Hoping you feel better soon. That truck is totally adorable! My question is how did you know what your business was going to be, or did the opportunity just sort of happen? Take your time answering and get lots of rest.
ReplyDeleteA couple of things I'm dying to know and I hope it's not too personal...I'd love to rent a warehouse/workspace to do all of my furniture refurbishing, do you feel like what you pay for the space takes a big chunk out of your profit? Is it worth it? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
ReplyDeleteRachel
xoxo
Well, I just have to say, I love all the same things you must, because I think vintage is my middle name. I want to know, what is the best find you've ever made?
ReplyDeletei've heard of the vics thing & it's a wonder it does work. also a shot of brandy with hot water works too ~ but might i suggest drinking that. ;)
ReplyDeletemy question: what do you look like? i always wonder about the girl behind the blog also & honestly when i picture you i picture a truck & although that truck is lovely...we wanna see you.
Hey there! I love your taste and totally want some vintage goody you've picked out :)
ReplyDeleteMy question is do you have children? And if not do you ever plan on any? I hope that's not too personal of a question :)
I would like to know: did you have a vision of your dream house when you were little?
ReplyDeleteExample: every since I was young, I have wanted to live in a two story white farmhouse with a wrap around porch. Complete with the golden retriever (which I finally have!)
Okay, what is your favorite find EVER :) Do you still have it?
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I love your blog. You have great taste!
ReplyDeleteMy question is completely random and it is this:
What's your favorite guilty pleasure in food form?
Oooh, I love that old toy truck! My hubby would LOVE it! My question is, what is your all time favorite book?
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better! My question is what type of camera do you use?
ReplyDeleteGet feeling better! My question to you is what is your favorite find and did you keep it?
ReplyDeleteHope you get well soon! As a side note, we absorb substances through the soles of our feet. Vicks has camphor, eucalyptus, and menthol, perhaps that is why it helps your cough. If you're having trouble sleeping, massage lavender essential oil into the soles of your feet. My question: Are you seeing any new trends in vintage collectibles/decor for 2012?
ReplyDeleteHope you get better soon! I had a head cold for 2 weeks! It felt like it would never end. Question: I am painting some dining chairs white. Do you use some sort of top coat/ sealant when painting, like a polyeurethane, or wax? I don't want that yellow tint on my chairs that some of those products produce. Would it be best just to paint them and leave it at that, and then touch them up from time to time?
ReplyDeleteCan you do a house tour? I love your little updates, but they are like teasers! Or maybe your shop/studio? I'd love to see all your work materials and how you do all that you do!
ReplyDeleteWhat is your favorite project of all time??
ReplyDeleteFeel better now...drink hot tea and rub those feet!!
Hugs
SUeAnn
I'd love to see inside your shop/studio as well. I get giddy with excitement thinking about all the goodies you have!
ReplyDeleteHmmm....do you ever have seller's remorse?? You do such beautiful work. I would think it would be hard to part with some of your pieces.
ReplyDeleteOther than white, if you could only live with one colour, what would it be?
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you're under the weather - hope you feel better soon! xo
Is getting back to your roots something you are thinking about for retirement or hoping for as you live your life until retirement and beyond. Good luck either way. Thanks too for the Vick's tip. So interesting and will definitely try at the first sign of my next coughing cold!
ReplyDeleteIs getting back to your roots something you are thinking about for retirement or hoping for as you live your life until retirement and beyond. Good luck either way. Thanks too for the Vick's tip. So interesting and will definitely try at the first sign of my next coughing cold!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Vick's tip. My son is home from school with a NASTY cough. Nothing seems to work. Will definitely give this a try. My question is, are you going to the Country Living Fair in Columbus, Ohio, this year & if so, can we meet up? Have a great day & I hope you feel better soon!!
ReplyDeleteDiane J./Ohio
Do you sell "smalls" at the flea. I love your booth at the flea and I just saw your etsay shop and love all the "small".
ReplyDeleteKaren R
Vicks on the feet really works...that and a spoonful of honey, I've done it for my little one since you can't give them cough meds. My question is where do you find most of your furniture to paint? And how do you deal with dresser drawers that don't work well? Take a nap and feel better soon!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon. That doesn't sound fun at all!
ReplyDeleteSo...my question is completely random... What's your favorite candy bar? :)
...such a fun blog you have.. its a joy to visit.. thanks for the opportunity at your candy also.. okay.. the question for you is.. ** if a bear coughs in the woods.. will anyone hear it ?? **
ReplyDeletemitz_zee@yahoodotcom
I love the Vicks trick too! I live in your neck of the woods (kind of) in DuPage County. What are your favorite places to shop? tracicolquhoun@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteThis might seem random, but I have a thing for typography. What font is the farmgirl on your header?
ReplyDeletemy question...can you post more pictures of your house and projects or any other inspiration? Thanks, and I will be trying the vicks trick also ;)
ReplyDeleteHmm, let's see.....if you could live anywhere else in the world where would it be?
ReplyDeleteNah, that's boring. How about what's the one piece of advice you'd offer someone just starting out in the vintage sales world?
Looking forward to the answers!
What's one rare or unique junk item you'd love to own but have not come across yet?
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteMy question is what items do you get exicited to find?
And do you keep them or sell?
Love your blog!
Heather S.
Nopostageused at gmaildotcom
How do you decide what to keep and what to sell? I always find great gifts, and then want to keep them! melamom@juno.com
ReplyDeleteyeah. I do actually. How the diggs are you so AWESOME??
ReplyDelete:) Heather
Hey, hope you are feeling better very soon! Loooove that vintage toy truck, it's adorable!
ReplyDeleteJulie
Your "Who am I?" says that you want to travel the world... if you could go anywhere, what's your #1 pick?
ReplyDeleteWhat's the thing you hope to hand down one day?
ReplyDeleteHow did you get started redoing furniture? Is it hard to do your taxes? I want to start selling on etsy, but the tax issue scares me.
ReplyDeleteOh, btw, if you have a terrible headache, you can rub Vicks on your forehead and it will help it go away. I get awful migraines and it almost always helps them go away or at least lessen the severity?
ReplyDeletewhat's the one thing you regret not buying?
ReplyDeletefeel better soon.
xo
molly
Hmm... Just one question? How about three? I wonder what type of camera you use and program to edit with? Do you have kids and do you travel around to other states looking for treasures?
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing all the questions I think I see why people switch over to Wordpress. I've been told you can answer right on the blog and it also sends a email directly to the person. Would you consider switching to Wordpress? Oops that's four questions now... lol
Traditional Medicinals makes fabulous teas for every ailment it seems. Specifically, Gypsy Cold Care and Throat Coat would help for a chest cold. I saw that people used Vicks for migraines. There's a product made by Origins called Peace of Mind; sensory therapy. It works great for head, sinus pain and just as a general stress reliever. A little goes a long way! It's $10 for .5 oz but it only takes a tiny drop. It's cooling and minty. Boiling water and dropping peppermint oil in it helps for breathing and relieving chest pain. No oil-No problem- Use mint leaves, basil, rosemary and/or oregano. Pretty much a mixture of Italian seasoning will open up nasal passages in a gentle way. Basil and oregano are part of the mint family too. Anywho, hope you are feeling better very soon.
Blessings,
Shanna

What is the very first thing you sold???
ReplyDelete---Tara
I hope you feel better soon!!! I've heard the same thing about the vicks. I will have to try it next time. ;o)
ReplyDeleteMine is an etsy question. How in the world do you keep up with your sales tax? Do you keep your own spreadsheet or do you have a professional do it? If you have a professional, have you always done it that way?
I'm SOOOO scared about opening my etsy shop b/c I'm super scared I will mess up on the taxes some how, some way...
We all have an "item that got away" that we can't forget. What is yours.
ReplyDeleteHope you get to feeling better. I love your blog. Paula in Oklahoma
Hi Mary! I would love to know where you go/shop for all your fabulous finds? Do you sleep :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day! Susan
I bought a frame from you last summer and love the way it is painted. What kind of paint do you use on your furniture? I think you have mentioned Benjamin Moore Cloud White. Do you normally use flat or semi-gloss? Do you sand it down or apply wax after painting? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteSo, that crazy trick really works? I'm totally trying it on my little coughy cakes.
ReplyDeleteHere's my question: What is your favorite meal ever in the history of the world. If you could only pick one. Lay it on me. Or, if you can't decide, we can go the route of "which 5 foods would you take to a deserted island". Either works. :)
ps - FEEL BETTER! xo
i will try the vicks trick, i use emergen c with honey hot and the throat coat tea. works great on the sore throat that accompanies a cough. my question is what kind of camera do you have do you photoshop and what kind of lenses and have you taken a photo class????
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I have been telling people about the Vicks feet thing for years and no one ever believes me! My mother did it for us in the 40's and 50's and I did it for my children in the 80's and 90's. Some old wives' tales really are true. My left hand itches - maybe someone will actually be giving me money.
ReplyDeleteFeel better,

ReplyDeleteSure hope that you get to feeling better soon! My question is how did you get started in this business?
ReplyDeletePerfect timing for the Vicks tip...my daughter has a nasty cough ~ thank you!

ReplyDeletewax or poly and what brand??
Hello~ I am curious when you first started, do you have a huge group that followed you... you know like famous bloggers? and how did you learn the ins and outs of blogging?
ReplyDeleteThanks
ti~
hmmmmm....I'm just excited to see all the answers :) Glad you are feeling a little better, vicks on the feet, will have to try it.
ReplyDeleteLets see...do you protect your furniture with varnish, protectant, wax after painting or leave it be :)
XOXO
Kristin
dang how did I miss this? My Q if it is not too late...
ReplyDeletewhat is your dream get-away. Mine remains Disney World. It beats out Venice,Paris, Madrid and Geneva. They were beautiful but Disney has a vibe I love.
Oh and you doubted me and the Vicks...silly girl! I am old and I am wise haha
ReplyDeleteSince we share a love for KC, I'm going to keep it legit and ask "What is your Kenny Chesney song, Farmgirl?"
ReplyDeleteIf it's not too late my questions are... Do you ever - or do you have plans to in the future - have a barn sale (or warehouse) where you sell your furniture along with your "smalls". And do you ever sell your items at other vendor locations vs. just the fleas? Last question :) - If you ever lost your love for refinishing furniture, what would you want to do instead?
