Junk Bonanza 2010



Whew! What a weekend it was!

I drove 700 miles in 36 hours. I would say that falls into the "whirlwind trip" category!

But, I have to say...what I saw of Junk Bonanza...was FANTASTIC!! I am going next year, for sure.

Anyway, on to the fun stuff.

The bonanza of junk.

I loved every last drop of it.

This is going to be a very random, crazy post, but tomorrow I will show you 2 of my favorite booths.

Industrial lighting was everywhere! I would say my style is farmhouse coastal with an industrial twist...so these were right up my alley.

(And yes, you read that right...I did say farmhouse-coastal-with-an-industrial-twist. Don't even try to figure it that one out!)

I was crazy about these frames...isn't that old aqua paint fabulous??





Oh, and the clocks. I can't forget those! I have a little "thing" for them. Old beat-up looking silver ones are my favorite.

I am kicking myself for not buying this one. $12!! Only $12 and I didn't get it?? Ugh.

Love these, too...

This barn door reminded me of my up-coming barn-tearing-down project. I can't wait to get my hands on a few of these. I am planning a giant armoire for my husbands "man room" with doors like these. I think it will be a perfect things to hide his giant TV. Ahhh..chippy and beautiful. We will both be happy.

I thought this old cart would be nice parked in the woods behund my house. I envisioned white flowers spilling out the top. It would be dreamy, don't you think?!

Can it get any better??

Why yes, it can. And it did.

Friday night I met up with a few familar faces from blogland. These girls are all beautiful and just as sweet as I had hoped.

I was actually really nervous about going to the party. I am not a "party girl" by any means, it is just so much pressure, you know? Will I be what they expect?? Will they be what I expect?? But, I have to say...they were all fabulous! I wish I would have taken more pictures!


And on a totally random note...I just had to let Becky know I was thinking of her yesterday! Yes, Miss Becky I am talkin' to you! This is a response to your post yesterday saying I never post photos of myself...so here you go!

My husband and I took a walk in the woods yesterday morning so we did a couple just for Becky...cheesy senior portrait style!!

Yes, these are meant to be a joke. We were laughing so hard when we were taking these. I don't pop my head through trees and give my best broken-neck tilt for just anyone. So Miss Becky, here you go. Photos of me...bad hair and a hoodie sweatshirt. This is how you will find me on a normal day.

Ok, now you know why you never. ever. see photos of me on my blog. I just love you girls too much to put you through that.

Happy Tuesday, girls!

good news...some not so good news...and a silver lining!

I like to start my day on a positive note...so I am going to share some fantastic news first.

(And share a few photos that will totally make sense at the end of this post.)

I am excited to tell you my friend Anita from the Iowa Junk Gypsies has landed a new job!! And not just any job...one she has wanted and worked so hard for...and waited so long to hear those 2 little words..."you're hired." 

 

Woohoo!

Can you imagine how exciting that must be?! I am out of my mind thrilled when something I have wanted is finally at my fingertips. She has waited so long for an opportunity to teach in one of the best school districts in her state, I am over the moon happy for her!

 

I hate to bring the moment down...but now we are movin' on to the not-so-good-news.

These two stories being together in one post will make sense at the end, I swear.

So stick with me.

~ I will not be selling at Junk Bonanza this year, afterall.  ~

 

I was so looking forward to meeting each and every one of you that sent me an email saying they were coming by the booth. It made me so happy to think I was finally going to be able to put faces and voices and smiles to the girls that stop by to chat with me every day.

I've been junking...and painting...and junking some more...and DANG! I had some good stuff to share with all of you!

But, alas...we will have to wait until next year.

You see...I was sharing a booth with Anita and Judy of the Iowa Junk Gypsies. But, because of Anita's new job...it just can't work out like we had hoped. I mean how do you really say to your brand spankin' new boss..."Ummm...I'd like to take 4 days off, a month into my brand new teaching job, to go whoop it up in Minnesota selling some pretty vintage wares at an incredible show"? Yeah. That would be tough.

So...duty calls. Anita is going to start her fantastic new job...

...and I...

...drumroll please...

WILL BE OPENING MY ETSY STORE EARLIER THAN PLANNED!

(This is where the cheering starts and confetti falls from the ceiling...just so you know! Feel free to get up out of your chair and do a little Snoopy dance.)

See...everything has a silver lining, right??

I am not one to stay in my "oh-no" mode for more than about 20 seconds. When my path changes I quickly adjust, move on and my mind switches gears to "ok, how am I going to make this work". I am a do-er. A planner. And I make it happen. So, I am gonna make this happen...

Urban Farmgirl & Co...the etsy shop!

Once my shows at the flea market are over in October, I will again be opening my little shop for the season. It will be loaded with vintage silver, old painted signs, vintage wire baskets, ironstone plates and pitchers, vintage mirrors...oh and lots and lots of painted furniture! And yes, for all of you on my waiting list...custom orders for painted furniture will resume mid-October. Thank you for your patience, it has been a super-busy summer with a show every 4 weeks!

To all of you that were going to stop by the booth at Junk Bonanza...I will be there shopping! So hopefully I will bump into you! Hmmm...maybe the real silver lining here is that I will get to SHOP!

And just so you know, as soon as I storm the gates, I hope I don't run anyone over. I will be making a mad dash for a booth I have been waiting all year to see...Old Crow Farm! I cannot wait to meet Kasey and JoJo in person! They have an amazing eye for vintage treasure with an industrial edge...and I LOVE it!
