cabbages & roses guest room...the reveal!

Well, I never thought I would ever get around to showing you the "after" of the Urban Plains project...but today is the day! For those of you not familiar with the UP Project, you can go here and here to read a little about how our collaboration came to be. It has been an AMAZING experience, and I cannot thank Cabbages & Roses enough for the opportunity to use yards and yards of their gorgeous fabric in my guest room!

I am going to keep this post to few words...so I hope you like what you see!

The headboard in the room is fully upholstered...done in C&R 'Hatley Cerise' linen. The softness and texture are incredible. I am truly in *love* with their linen fabrics!

They sent me a few pillows for the bed..the two matching ones are from the 'Podge' collection in the color Cerise. The one in the middle is a white linen. All have the cutest shell buttons for closure.

Andrea has inspired me to embrace what she calls the "unmade bed". Love that girl...who knew NOT making the bed could look so fantastic! She has made my day one step easier...haha!

This is the nightstand to the left of the bed...with my coveted dairy box underneath.

This is the one on the right...I *LOVE* that etched mirror!

Above the bed hangs a vintage chandi...just for a little extra sparkle at night...

I painted an antique dresser pale gray...I thought it would compliment the 'New Penny Pink' curtain fabric well.

I added new crystal knobs to play off the chandelier...the vignette on the top I put together from things I found around the house. My grandmother's house blessing print is framed with a little chicken wire, the crusty old bottle holds a love note from the late 1800s.

I have a serious affinity for driftwood. I believe I have a little in every room in my house. I added some old metal hooks to this piece...perfect to hold the totes Andrea made for me out of the matching fabric from the room. She used the pattern from Christina's book Romantic Home Sewing.

The room has such a wonderful softness...it turned out so cozy and comfortable. I love how the light streams through the curtains...

And the bed makes me want to crawl in and stay all day. I think I may eventually hang a piece of architectural salvage above the bed...but for now I am enjoying the barn wood wall. I have such fun memories of taking that old barn down. It was a lot of work, but its just another page in my personal history book.

The girls at Cabbages & Roses sent me such a pretty journal for the room! I cannot wait to put it to use, because I have one requirement of all my guests. When they stay, I have a "guest book" on the nightstand and I ask them to make an entry before they leave. Sometimes it is funny, sometimes it is sweet...but I love looking back months later to read about the visit we had. I cannot wait to read about their first stay in the "new" room!

* sigh *

I owe Christina Strutt, Lily & Suzie a huge THANK YOU for this opportunity! And Andrea too, for taking my 924 phone calls and helping me decide how to best use all this gorgeous fabric!

I think I just may go lay down in my guest room today...with my pjs still on  and with a big stack of magazines. Just relax and soak in the beauty of the room. Sounds like a perfect day to me!

Oh, and be sure to go over and visit Andrea at Faded Plains, too! She did something incredible in her foyer using Cabbages & Roses fabric as wallpaper!

And did you know Cabbages & Roses has a blog? They do...pop over and visit...it is a great way to keep up with their latest products and projects!

Happy Monday, girls!

urban plains teams up with cabbages & roses!

Once upon a time...a long, loooong ago I mentioned in a post that I had somehow talked my friend, Andrea into helping me redesign my guest bedroom. Andrea came up with a fantastic moniker for what we were about to embark on...the 'Urban Plains Project'. A little of me, a little of her...and we were hoping to have the result be a whole lot of beautiful! Does anyone remember that? It has been a while since we talked about it, but we have good reasons for our delay, I promise!

Because of that blog post, Andrea and I have been given the most amazing opportunity to work with Cabbages & Roses, and each make over a space in our home! We could not be more excited to work with Christina's lovely fabrics, and are beyond thrilled to bring a little of the English countryside into our rooms!

I decided my guest bedroom would indeed be my room of choice. I could think of no better place for such soft, beautiful fabrics and I am so happy with the lovely selection they have sent for me to use in my space!

When my husband and I purchased this house a few years ago, I admit it was not the house of our dreams. I never pictured myself in a 1950s era ranch style home. I am a girl whos style is more farmhouse, with a squeaky screen door and lovely old windows with their original wavy glass. I like falling asleep to the sound of the country...and waking up to birds chirping and a breeze making my curtains billow. But living in this house was an opportunity we could not pass up. this house was right next door to my sister. I can look out my office window right and see her working in her flower garden. I love that. I love cranking open the window and having that 5 minute conversation about nothing. I knew I could always return to my roots and move back to a farm, but when would I ever again have the opportunity to build the memories that living next door to one of my favorite peeople in the world. So I had to make it happen. And I am turning this rancher into the cottage of my 'current' dream.

And Cabbages and Roses is helping me make that happen...

So just how do I plan to make a guest bedroom in a 1950s ranch style home into the English Country cottage of my dreams??

Here are a few little snippets of my room "before"...and a preview of my plan.

This is the view standing at the door, as you would walk in. This is your standard 12x12 bedroom, totally lacking in architectural interest and style. But, I plan on fixing that with some unique things I will be adding to the room.

Remember that barn I took down piece-by-piece last fall?? Well, I am using some of the oak boards from the interior to cover the headboard wall! I am so excited to show you how it turns out! That wood, along with new mouldings, a crystal chandi and C&R 'new penny pink' fabric on the windows should give this old room a bit of panache!

This is the wall to the left of the doorway when you walk in the room. I plan on using this beautiful old piece of driftwood on the wall with rusty hooks I salvaged from a workshop space. They will hold a couple of totes made from C&R fabrics.

The headboard wall will be covered in the salvaged wood, but the headboard for the bed is a repurposed piece with a wood frame and a fabric insert in the center. It will be made beautiful with a little 'hatley cerise linen' fabric.

For the other side of the room, I have plans for a antique chest of drawers painted a pale gray. It should be beautiful with the 'new penny pink' drapes hanging next to it.

Oh, and I cannot forget...I have beautiful, new closet doors on the way, too! Out with the 1950s plain birch sliding doors...I am bringing a little farmhouse feel to this space with a new set of swinging double doors.

So there you have it, girls.

One plan, two girls, and an amazing opportunity to make our space beautiful!

Andrea and I are going to be working hard the next few weeks, so stay tuned! Cabbages and Roses will be bringing the English countryside to our homes, and we can't wait to share it with you!

We will have a full reveal of our spaces during the first week of May!

pottery barn duvet for sale...

Happy Thursday, girls!

I hope you are all warm and cozy today. It is frreeeeezzzzing here, so think of me today if you are one of my warm-climate friends!! Or, feel free to call me up and invite me down for a visit!

Today I am working on the "Urban Plains"bedroom. I plan on giving you a sneak peek next week, but while I am thinking of it I thought I would offer an orphan duvet up for sale, just in case any of you were pining for this one when it sold out from Pottery Barn.

It was part of the "Farmhouse Collection" that launched last January.

You can see it in the photo here...it is the blue chambray duvet shown folded over the quilt.

This is the catalog it was first featured in...so if you are like me...and have a stack of their catalogs that date back to somewhere around 1999, you can turn to page 5 in this one and have a look.

It is King Size, and I snagged it for one heck of a deal on clearance earlier this year. I had no plans for it, but for $60 I knew I had to grab it "just in case" it worked in one of the bedrooms in my home. Well, now that rooms and color schemes are coming together...it is not going to work afterall, so thought maybe someone out there could give it a new home.

It may have been a return, or a display...I don't know. I just know it was after this one had sold out, I was walking through one day...and there she was sitting alone in the clearance corner, not in its original package. So it may not be 100% perfect, but I asked before I purchased it...and the girl that sold it to me told me if it is flawed, they cannot sell it in the store, it goes to their outlet. I unfolded it to check it over, and it looks good to me!

So, if someone out there would like it...send me an email!

$60...plus shipping...and its yours!

UPDATE: Woohoo! The duvet has a new home! A great-big THANK YOU to Brenda!

I am off to get to work...we had a bit of a color change to the white walls in the guest room I am working on. "Snow White" was just too cold...but "Chantilly Lace" by Benjamin Moore did the trick! It is my new favorite white! Warm, but doesn't have a "cream" cast to it...but still a nice bright white. I recommend it to anyone out there looking for the perfect shade of white for their walls or furniture!
